Installing headlight film and protective film on lights
Thorough cleaning, plenty of application fluid and careful shaping with a heat gun give the film the right conditions to follow the shape of the light and achieve a smooth, durable result.
Before you begin
Important before installation
Do not install the film on a hot light or in direct sunlight. Use a heat gun – not a hair dryer – when the film needs to be shaped over curved areas. Work carefully at approximately 100 °C and always keep the heat gun moving.
FILM CONSTRUCTION
The headlight film consists of three layers
1. Adhesive-side liner
This layer is removed before installation. Beneath it is the adhesive side of the film, which must face the surface of the light.
2. The protective film
This is the permanent film layer that protects the light and provides the desired appearance.
3. Scratch-protective top layer
Protects the film during installation. Do not remove this layer until the installation is nearly complete.

STEP BY STEP
How to install the headlight film
Clean the light thoroughly
Wash the light and remove dirt, grease, wax, insect residue and other deposits. Even small particles may be visible beneath the film. Dry your hands and keep your fingers clean throughout the installation.
Check positioning and fit
Test-fit the film against the light before removing the liner. Check its orientation, fit and how it should be positioned over the curved areas of the light.
Spray the application fluid
Spray plenty of application fluid onto the light. Wet your fingers before touching the adhesive side. This reduces the risk of fingerprints and makes it easier to adjust the position of the film.
Remove the adhesive-side liner
Carefully remove the first protective layer. Spray application fluid directly onto the adhesive side of the film and avoid touching it with dry fingers.
Position the film on the light
Place the film on the wet surface and carefully slide it into the correct position. Spray application fluid on the outside of the film as well, allowing the rubber squeegee to glide without leaving marks.
Secure the centre first
Start in the centre of the light and push the application fluid towards the outer edges using overlapping strokes. Hold the film in place and work calmly so that it does not move.
Shape the film over curved areas
Heat carefully with a heat gun at approximately 100 °C. Keep the heat gun moving and heat one small area at a time. Once the film softens, it can be stretched and shaped over the curves of the light. Avoid excessive heat and unnecessary stretching.
Finish the edges
Carefully push any remaining fluid and air towards the edges of the film. Pay particular attention to strongly curved areas and recesses. Lift and adjust the film if necessary before the adhesive begins to bond.
Remove the scratch-protective top layer
Once the film is correctly positioned and the installation is nearly complete, carefully remove the outer scratch-protective layer. Hold the protective film in place so that it does not lift with the top layer.
Final inspection and drying
Inspect the surface and carefully press down the edges one final time. Allow the film to dry undisturbed and avoid pressure washing until the film and its edges are completely dry and firmly attached.
After installation
Small amounts of remaining application fluid or slight haziness may be visible during drying and gradually disappear. Do not puncture the film. Instead, make sure that the fluid has a route towards the nearest edge.
Self-healing properties
The film has some self-healing properties. Light surface marks may diminish when the film is gently heated. Use moderate heat and keep the heat gun moving continuously.

The video shows how the film is positioned, shaped and installed on the surface of the light. A heat gun is used to carefully adapt the film to curved lights.
Removing the headlight film
Gently heat the film with a heat gun to soften the material and adhesive. Start at one corner and slowly pull the film backwards at a low angle. Avoid jerking the film or pulling it straight away from the light. A previously damaged, cracked or weakened surface may be affected when the film is removed.
